Wow, what a day this was!!! Firstly, there are two videos to share. We have been working on teaching Owen to sign for a very long time, even before we knew about his hearing loss. We had never had much luck, despite a great deal of effort. But since the cord blood infusion it's like we have a new little boy. He has been making progress by leaps and bounds. Earlier this week I thought he was making the sign for "eat" (which is just putting one's hand to one's mouth). After a few days I was pretty sure. But by today I was certain enough to get out the video camera. The video also shows one of Owen's other new skills - drinking through a straw. Owen can't drink from a cup because his chair doesn't allow his head to tilt back. He can drink the first few sips and then can't get any more out. We had tried to teach him to drink through a straw many times, but he had never gotten the idea of what we wanted him to do. His occupational therapist gave us this great little honey bear with a tube in it so that you can squeeze out just a bit of liquid to put on their tongue. Once they taste the liquid they get the idea that they can drink from this thing and walla, they start sucking.

There is also a second video here of Sammy doing some gymnastics in her room. I haven't had the nerve to bring the video camera to her real gymnastics lessons because I'm afraid she'll fall off the high beam while trying to wave at the camera. But I did get her to do a few things in her room on camera.

Owen's New Skills Sammy Gymnastics

Now on to the pictures. We were all in a fabulous mood on this day, and it showed in finally getting some good pictures of the kids together. Sammy insisted on wearing her leotard that she had just gotten from a friend the day before so it may not be the best fashion show, but they are too adorable for it to matter.

Sammy has taken to doing extra chores around the house to earn an allowance. Since I had the camera out Sammy suggested that I take some pictures of her vacuuming the stairs. It looks more like a spread for "Good Housekeeping" than a five year old doing chores because she kept posing. There is also a picture of Sammy helping me to sort coins to be wrapped.

And finally, a couple of pictures of Owen being a big ham.
