The annual Halloween Parade at Sammy's school - with Sammy's costume finished.
This year's theme was "Your Favorite Character in a book". There were enough
Harry Potter characters there to fill out a quidditch team, so I'm glad we chose
something else. In the class picture you can see Dobbie the House Elf in the
front row, while Ron and Ginny Weasley and Hedwig are in the back row.
Harry and Hermione were
in the upper elementary class and even Professor McGonagal showed up. Sammy,
however, is in a Mongolian dressing gown - one of Ottoline's many outfits in the
very intricately illustrated book of Ottoline and the Yellow Cat.
Thankfully it very closely resembles a bath robe, which is a fairly easy pattern to
find at JoAnn's. It's made from white fleece material and the dots and circles
were printed out on iron-on transfer paper and placed on after the sewing was done.

Time for Trick-or-Treating!
This was Owen's first year to go out and he was just adorable in his spider
costume. As usual we took them to the mall for their goodie gathering as we live
in a very small neighborhood. He loved playing with the spider on the front of the costume and
he laughed and giggled all night as he watched all of the other kids in their costumes. |

The Jack-o-Lantern
This year's masterpiece was an Owl that Sammy saw in the pattern book which she
really liked. After two and a half hours of carving I have declared that next year's
Jack-o-Lantern will be a ghost! |
